I'm looking for some sort of website, program, or other resource that lets you plug in your point total and lets you calculate draw odds for certain hunts/units. I know there are some paid subscriptions out there but looking for a decent free resource if available. I know Game and Fish provides draw odds but theirs don't reflect bonus point totals.
I'm up to 12 elk points so thinking about just holding out for early rifle in my favorite unit. Just want to know how many more years of pain I'll need to endure before making that decision.
I have a 7 day trial of goHunt that I am going to let expire because I just can't justify the $150 price since I only hunt AZ. But I plugged your 12 points in and set the "trophy potential" filter to 350" and it looks like your best bet for an early rifle tag would be unit 10 at 1.4% draw odds.
I don't know of a free resource other than the G&F data.
Its really just a random lottery. Unless you have the odds in the bonus point pass you have 1 name in the hat along with x number of players. Math says its the same with 5 bonus points as it is with 1 (ok you get a little better odds but now much, 1 of 5 that us the lowest gets put in the hat)
I also have Toprut.com up and running. It says, regardless of how many points I have, I'd have better luck at putting out hell's fire than I would at getting drawn for elk.
Me and Bob put in, our choice, with 2 points ea, stays 76% chance of being drawn for first choice, That will work for me. Put in for high Draw units, get drawn, Hunt hard, take an elk home, Been that way for decades.
I need to learn how to hunt elk first, otherwise I'd be doing what khmer6 said and donating my money.
I'm planning on getting out once this snowstorm blows out and seeing if i can find and tracks or elk sign in the unit I live in. Low density, but the snow ought to help a little
Choices... apply for the hunt you want and hope to get lucky. Apply for hunts with high draw odds just cuz you want to go hunting and pay your donation fee to azgfd

Just continue to hang out with RickyGs bunch, he will show you eventually how much fun it is to have a big ole elk on the ground a few miles from the truck.
