Sooooo cool!! I was driving my kids to school this morning when out of the corner of my eye I saw a few Elk. Then a few more....and more...and more.... like 30 all together!! They were right off the train tracks in the small town of Ash Fork near Double AA Ranch Road. I have never seen such a large herd of Elk in town. My husband and I own forty acres off the grid in the heart of Unit 10, Northern AZ. A lot of Unit 10 is a checkerboard layout with private and government owned land. Hunters flock to our area for Elk season because they are EVERYWHERE!! You can hear the Elk bugle through the trees and see them as they cross the roads in front of your path (you don't really see the whole herd because of all the trees.) The land is so cheap that it is no wonder people are buying up huge lots and setting up hunting homes of their own. We know of one guy that is building a storage container hunt tower by turning a container straight up in the air and placing the hunt tower on top of it. It really is a hunter's paradise. Sharlene Barnett with Country Life Realty (928.637.2399) has some great properties for anyone looking to set up their own place. I will never regret moving out here. The city has it's perks, but this is waaaay more fun! Allie D.

how you cleverly spammed a realty service, or that you finally figured out there was elk less than 1/4 mile north of ashfork and it was soooooo cooooooool
hunters dont flock to that area because there is alot of elk its because its one of the few small portions of land that is not owned by the res to legally hunt it. and BTW they DONT FLOCK there. very few hunters hunt there.
hunters hunt there more for lopes,pdogs and yotes.
so instead of trying to make it sound sooooo cool, you should say what you originally came to say and that is
if you want land close too so and so call so and so.
BTW land isnt that cheap there, nice try though. and aside form the few people I know that live there the area is filled with crackwhores methlabs and parasites.

I agree, Land aint cheap anywhere in AZ, unless its by Winslow, and its nothing but flat. Unit 10 sucks to be quite honest, so unless your inviting us all up to hunt on your 40, I think your wasting your time. Good Luck to you if you hunt your land, post some pics. Come to Payson, I see herds of 40 or more weekly, no big deal. Hey also, Welcome to AHT, Another female, second of 2 in two weeks. Enjoy your property, one day it wont be isolated.

It's not uncommon to see elk in that area. However.......the aforementioned Real Estate agent was the agent for the seller when I bought my home north of Ash Fork, and I don't have anything good to say about her. Nice try though....
Bearfoot and Delw can really pick up a scent!! Agreed with both. My in-laws live in Pine and I've seen more elk there than Ash Fork any day. Some areas of 10 have elk but you have to go find them, hunted the unit the last 3 years. Pics help. No rebuttal also raises suspicions....

Fair enough. Wish I would have gotten a pic. Last year, there were three HUGE bull Elk hanging out in the Ash Fork school field the whole day. You can ask ANYONE in Ash Fork about that! They wandered into the field and were not able to find their way out for hours. And, yes, I could be the soccer mom type, but I have four daughters and they don't play soccer. They love to practice shooting on our 'girly guns.' 22 old school rifle and 22 revolver. I do better in the kitchen, blah blah. None the less- It was cool- just wanting to share. I am from Scottsdale, my family and I moved completely off the grid with our kids and it has been a life changing experience for us all. I have a lot of respect for those of us who enjoy the outdoors, hunting, living off the land and enjoy the right to bear arms. BTW.... there does seem to be more antelope in Unit 10 than Elk. But I think it's just that the trees are so thick that you can'ts see them. We saw mule deer and antelope several time a week. Westwood Ranches is teeming with wildlife. At certain times of the year, you can almost set your clock as to when the Elk will cross your path and their sheds line the fence lines that they wander along. AND I AM A CHICK.....so please don't shoot the three antelope in the front fields as you enter Westwood Ranches. My daughters have made them our family pets.
Thats part of the problem these days, everyone that has elk, deer, lopes, ect in their yard are now pets, REALLY ? They are wild animals until you hang them on the wall or put them in the freezer, get off with them being pets. We had that problem here in Payson, everyone has elk close by and they were all pets, so they complained to game and fish about hunting their so called pets, and they outlawed hunting within the city boundaries. Now you have to drive for miles to get out of the city limits just to hunt. That really SUCKS!!! . I wish people would grow up and quit calling wild animals pets, FAR from the TRUTH. Maybe you should stay in the kitchen or carry a camera and start naming the wild animals and post the pics of Ralph, Joe, Pricilla, LOL.........

If you have a plot of land are you "free" to hunt the animals in the specific season and not worry about getting drawn? I thought you still had to get drawn so would you still not have issues getting enough to support you and others being your land?

Ya, we all post funny at times, send a PM if in question. I sent you a reply to your intro for a swap hunt, if interested. As well as anyone, Ill swap a guided cow elk hunt in 22 for a whitetail hunt in AZ. .
To the comment about hunting on property - some other states, landowners get preferential tags for hunting their unit, but that is not the case here in AZ.
If it was, Id have an Elk every Year. I see elk almost every day within 200 ft of my Property. .Easy shots, they are used to seeing trucks and such, Just stand there and look at you, dumb Elk, Not the case when you are hunting them.
Dang people and there feeding of wildlife. They should realize they are creating a problem, wait till the Javis chase that lady back into her house, she will bitch up a storm I bet. I know people that put out Dog nibbles here for the Javis, I tell them the problems they are creating and they dont listen a bit.

Insults, personal attacks, name calling and blatant swearing are not and WILL NOT be tolerated. Due to the nature of numerous posts made by a certain member in this thread, I have placed them on a 30-day ban for violation of forum rules. If this member wishes to conduct their behavior like was done in this thread, then they will have to do it elsewhere. My suggestion is we all go back to conducting ourselves like civil adults. Continued disregard to forum rules will result in additional bans and depending on the severity and frequency, some bans will become permanent. If anyone wishess to comment on this action, please feel free to do so through the "private message" option. Thanks!
