So this weekend I finally was able to take home my first elk with the help of good friends bearfoot1 and khmer6. It was a limited op hunt in 3b and after wondering for three days where the heck all the elk were, we were able to seal the deal Sunday morning. I had just about given up when this lady walked out from behind a juniper with about 15 of her closest friends. With the help of the aforementioned friends she was skinned, quartered, and stuffed in a couple ice chests. We sampled her tenderloins for breakfast and packed up to go home. You might think that was the highlight of the trip for me, and it was. For bear, however, the rattlesnake dance I did on Thursday after nearly stepping on it, having it strike and barely miss, then checking shorts for adrenaline driven pop, was probably more excitement for him. Hahaha
Good times had by all!
The Rattlesnake dance was something to see, HA, I laughed my ass off, wasn't funny but it was on Thurs AM. Great camp, My goals were met with Bob getting his first Lady, we tried last year, No Bueno, hunted hard this year, lots of walking, scouting, went to area right at north end of the hunt area and Bob Found them, one well placed spine shot with muzzle loader, down for the day. Great camp, Seyha and family showed up, His Buggy was a lifesaver, hauling our arses around as well as an unfortunate elk. Had other members that for one reason or other ditched us at last minute, and didnt show up, we made due. Lots of rain, trip home was driving under a spigot turned full on, 50 miles of the heaviest rain Ive seen for a while, and the rim road aint that great for heavy weather, people drive like idiots, couldn't see and still driving 70 MPH. It was exciting there for awhile. I believe we all had fun, a Nice camp in the cinders as you see, no more muddy camp, what a blessing. A couple of pics of camp, no elk for me as Im still having walking issues, I tried, just not at right spot at right time. Always next year.
Bob got his first set of Ivory's, Hot Dang !!!!
If only we had actually remembered to bring it in the field!!! That was foolish of us for sure. Gotta stop procrastinating and get my game winch set up onto the top roll cage so we can dump the bed and slide in animals
