Late. I'm going to have to put in some good scouting this year. With water and feed everywhere last year, they were hard to find. They were not where Ive seen them the prior 4 years.
Cool. We (you and I) have the same hunt again. I agree, last year was very difficult as opposed to other recent years. I got lucky and ground out a small bull but we saw very few elk throughout the hunt. I hope this year is better! Good luck!

Greetings AZF,

Drew the late rifle limited opportunity any elk tag in units 17-20...... Looks to be tough which I am ok with, but is there elk? I am in Kingman and planning to scout, but after reading, I am considering if there are any elk out there. I am military and only have so much leave to burn....I cant be out there for 3 weeks unfortunately. Additionally, due to all the military moving, its hard to get to know an area really well. Does anyone know how many of those tags are given out each year. I am a relativity new hunter and I cant seem to find that info. I am thinking for targeting 17A or 19B. Its such a big area. If you feel inclined to offer any assistance, or just to chat about it, please message me, it would be very appreciative.

There are elk there. Yes it is a hard hunt. Start with the unit information from Game and Fish. Then scout as much as you can. We have the Oct cow elk hunt in the same area. Its a tough hunt and you likely will see few elk. But there aren't many tags and lots of chance to hunt areas you will have all to yourself.

If there were no elk there would be no tags. You can look in the regs to see how many tags are available for each hunt

Congrats on drawing the tag! and Welcome to AHF!!!

You drew the tag I had last year, I killed a small 5 point bull on the second to the last day. I have the cow tag this year which runs concurrent with your hunt. Between the two there are 450 tags for the six units. Elk can be found out there, I have filled five of my last 6 tags. Being in Kingman, you can get to some of the area without too much travel, scouting is a must. You won't road hunt many out in that country. A lot of the sign you are likely to find will be old, but that's still an indication that they do use the area periodically.

Good luck!!! 🍀

There are a few elk. I drew the first rifle anterless tag and had the same tag last year. Never my first choice in fact my last choice but better than no tag. You might do better in the second season if you get some weather to drive some elk down. Check out the water holes till you find sign then concentrate your efforts around there.
