Well another javelina season has come and gone. I was fortunate enough to have drawn two tags this year, one for the archery season and the other for the general season.

The archery hunt did not go quite as planned. I hunted all three weekends, 7 days total, and while I did have two opportunities, well let's say that the population is the same as when I started.

The general hunt did not have the blue-bird weather the early hunt had. With winds, rain, and cold weather it was pretty hard to glass up any hogs. But as luck would have it we did find one small herd nestled down in a choked filled draw keeping out of the wind. We circled around keeping the wind in our face and were able to approach to 21 yards.

The 32-40 Winchester did it's job and the rest is history.

Super cool you killed it with an old school caliber and gun. Is that the same gun you used a year or 2 ago on a javelina?

Well, that's a wrap for me. Hunted a few days with Tucson Tony and I never saw one. He saw one and he hunted all 7 days I believe. I thought today with the snow on the ground would be a winner but nope. Never even saw a fresh track. 34A has gone dry and its no surprise to me. With the rabbits having died off over the last 2 years all the predators had to risk going in and taking the wee javi pups and it shows. I'll be very interested to read the harvest report in the unit over this years season. Next up, Spring turkey in 27!
