So I got drawn for general javelina in 20A. I picked doing a bunch of OT at work throughout December, January, and this month rather than getting out and scouting. I now find myself at a crossroads of blowing off the hunt this year and focusing on rabbits and coyotes for now, or going out for a day or two when the season opens and seeing if I get really lucky.

Given that I may not be lucky despite doing my research on the G&F website and picking an area just east of Wilhoit (off the recommended FS road). Does anybody know any honey holes that they would be willing to share given that this isn't a favorite unit of most javelina hunters?

I would say that it is prudent to go out, if you intend on hunting it next year, consider this a scouting trip, anything you see is some nice extra.

Or pointguard it and get your BP if you did that, they might give your tag to someone local who'd like to hunt it.

I don't plan on hunting it next year and I was not to smart and did not point guard it as a way to force myself to scout more. I know better than to ask for honey holes but since it's not a prime unit and I don't want to hunt it again, I figured I'd ask.

The info I already gave you on your previous thread about 20A was 100% truth. Started scouting months ahead of time, saw a few. Hunted every day except one, only had one encounter.

If there's honeyholes in 20A, the only one I found was my parents yard, lol.

Near Wilhoit was where I personally saw the greatest numbers, but did not see any in there during the season. Just my luck. Saw a few near Cleator before season, but it was infested with people and offroaders during the season. Didn't see any in there during season either.

I figured. I was just hoping someone was gonna say here's the coordinates where I tagged out last season and I'll never go for that unit again lol.

I thinking I'm just gonna go to Wilhoit at least one day this season on one of my days off and see how it goes. I definitely want to hunt that unit for other species in the future but not javelina again.

That's asking alot given the info you've gotten already.

I understand work can get busy, but It doesn't bode well to ask for honey holes and also mention that you might not even try to go out. If that's the case, any one of us could've gotten drawn instead of someone who doesn't even want to put the effort in. 1 or 2 days of hunting (if you put in the work) is plenty of time to fill your tag. But that requires work. Something many in this current generation think is beneath them.

Nothing is ever a total waste. Go out spend some time looking and who knows one may walk into your lap. It does happen.

Lol. I don't disagree with a thing you said. Hence why I was upfront about how I took OT instead of scouting despite knowing better. I even mentioned that I knew better than to ask for honey holes. Just an fyi, 20A has a 97% draw success because no one wants to hunt javelina there. Relax, I am well aware of everything I was doing wrong in making this post and will not be baited into an argument with you.

Armed hiking better than couch surfing. Go out of doors young man, if anything you will be rewarded by enjoying some of God’s creation. It might become your new deer or coyote testing grounds.
I love armed hiking....a day out armed hiking is better than a day inside...any day....

I'm going out the 24th to unit 10. My honey holes are snowed in this year so I'm going to go find new ones. You can't win if you don't lay down your cards. If you go out and find a honey hole and are successful let everyone on the forum know where it is.
if you get stuck you can call me! Lol.

That's what I'm gonna do. I have for sure one day, possibly two, that I can hunt and I have done some e-scouting and have specific points marked for glassing already. If I tag out I will most definitely post the coordinates because I am not going to hunt this unit for javelina again lol.

Snow Twig Branch Plant Wood

JFYI, snow and bad weather does not stop them from coming out. This guy's name is "Lucky". He was the first of two that walked up out of a wash about 20 feet from me while I was taking a sandwich break. The first one got behind a mesquite before I could put the sandwich down and get the gun up so #2 became the victim and Lucky wandered around in the snow for another 5 minutes trying to find his buddy. You will notice the track in the snow. The herd had been up and around for sometime before I got there.

Been in 20A since last friday and just got home. Saw some but couldn't close distance before sundown. Found others but group picked off ones we were after and then snow came. They got really quiet after weather came in but they are there. Seen them in various parts of unit while scouting. 20A is pretty decent for javi's. Doubt people will give out honey holes but may i recommend camping in areas where you plan to hunt and do homework (scout). Makes it easier when hunt comes.

I actually had two overnight scouting trips planned, then a bunch of OT shifts opened up at work. I chose to jump on those instead, due in part to not being super motivated to hunt javelina in a unit that I was not sure about. Seems like I was wrong, and regardless of the tag I will plan better next time or at least get PointGuard.

@Skorzeny knows how to hunt 20A. Killed a buck last year and can find javi. Lol.
