Rook, The metal clips are stripper clips. They are the forbearer of today's rifle magazine. They were utilized on the Springfield 1903 to quickly reload 5 rounds into the internal magazine. This system was used on World War I and II military bolt action battle rifles. The military still uses them today to rapidly reload the 30 round M-16 magazines. I'm sure you can find a video on YouTube that shows how they work.

Thanks for your info. I did know that they are stripper clips but; totally in the dark regarding what rifle they went to.
