Anyone like Walkers? I see they're 20% next week at Sportsmans. I'm interested in the over-ear style vs. the in ear. My only question though, is how sensitive they will be for hearing game? Could you hear ducks whistling by with them on in enough time to draw up and shoot in that .05 second time frame? Or is there a delay to where you'd miss opportunities like that? Or not even hear them coming at all?? Anyone have experience to know?? I don't want to miss opportunities, but I know I'm doing damage going out there with nothing on.

Did it stop you from hearing subtle sounds in the woods? That's my biggest apprehension. I've always thought of ear protection as solely for the range. I would just put up with my 1 shot at a turkey or elk and let my ears take it. But duck hunting has completely changed that. I can feel damage being done so now I need something that you can wear while hunting that won't impede everything.

So my hearing is damaged. Due to loud noises, military. So the hearing protectors have help me. I to duck, turkey. With them I can hear sounds that I couldn’t hear without them. They do help me tremendously. And I can hear teal flying in to the decoys.

I have walkers over the ear. There is zero "delay" in the sound. It's a live feed from the mics.
However, i couldn't see wearing them to hunt. Way too much static and white noise when there is the slightest breeze.
That's just my experience at the range. I've never actually tried them hunting.
(I have the Walker's slim razor electronic muffs)
YMMV

Gotcha. That's what i was wondering. I wonder if getting up in price bracket makes any difference or not?

It does and high end Peltor is what you see on all of the special forces and police. I have an older pair and love them. Unfortunately they have lost one mic and it is more expensive to repair than replace and it Is not on my budget list right now.

Tinnitus and NDAs, how to avoid the wife
The problem with these ear issues that we accumulate over the years, sirens over your head before it was decided that was causing hearing damage, shooting with inadequate hearing protection is now, like most of us are finding, your hearing just goes away. Mine has been bad for years but a few weeks ago the left ear just stopped working or at least dropped from 80% with tinnitus to 30% with roaring/F16 takeoffs.

$500-$1000 for good protection is worth it now. I wish I would have thought that earlier.

No. The reference to F16 was the sound in my left ear right now 😁
Most early damage came from hunting and shooting in my younger days then years of a siren on the car light bar right over the top of my right ear then more years of inadequate ear protection at the range teaching. Seems we don’t learn early enough and I wonder about all of the kids with buds stuck in their ears today.

That is so true kids don’t realize the effects of the earbuds. Plus the speaker in PD vehicles and you’re right about the years of sirens effecting our ears. I just received hearing aids last year from the VA. But I use the electronic ear muffs for shooting and hunting now.

Ear buds arent Great. iPhones now warn you when you reached your time limit for max volume, but I never listen cause any lower on the sound I can’t hear it.
