In a small town shop like ours there is no way to figure out what a customer bought they would only know that you bought something here. Of course the majority of my customers buy with cash... So no paper trail at all... Plus we still do 4473's on paper so if you have a CCW no one knows what you bought until those alcohol tabacky guys come ask for it... At the big stores once all that stuff goes on a computer they have access to all your information.

Where is the shop again? Know you have mentioned it a few times--sorry! Might try to make a stop up that way to camp this month

I am certainly not up on all of the requirements for purchase or forms but isn’t it part of the rules/Regs that purchases are not computerized?

They can't make an "easily" searchable federal database. On a private level they can do whatever tf they want along with states and cities until they are lobbied out of existence.
Similarly small shops refuse to "computerize" credit card sales or health records because the digital compliance is just too costly. Meanwhile you can write down a credit card number on a piece of paper no problem lol

It's not required but, there are several programs out there like ones used in bigger big box stores and bigger private shops that ceate and record their 4473's on their computers and those computers are searchable by the shop and ATF can inspect those forms possibly copying those files to their hard drives. Keep in mind a 4473 has ALL of your information and ALL the information of what you buy on it...

When you do a NIC check you're warned and must agree when signing in there is no guarantee to privacy on your computer... This tells me someone could be scanning for information on your hard drive... I am sure they have figured out how to pull 4473 data off a computer using that sofware.... This is why our shop does not use any record kepping or firearm sales programs or computerized 4473...

Also remember if you buy in a shop that only has paper 4473's and you use a CCW no one knows what you buy unless they ask the shop to do a search on a firearm and that is very rare...

A majority if not all 4473 software vendors are SaaS. The information doesn't stay local unless it's a cache. It's stored wherever they have it in the cloud ir a data center. Either easy it's a publicly accessible endpoint that is secured and protected but not unpenetrenable.

lol Yea we know how secure cloud and data centers are.. I like paper, someone has to break in to get them... Although the cloud is a lot safer than paper if the shop has a fire...
