Looking for a Hunting Partner

Title says it all. Looking for someone that likes chasing critters and fish as much as I do. Experienced hunter preferred but willing to train the right candidate.

Qualifications:

1. Must love hunting upland birds - plus if you own a pointing dog
2. Wants to travel out of state for more opportunity
3. Doesn't expect me to do all the scouting then tie a deer to a tree for you
4. Doesn't expect a free ride, food, and beer EVERY time
5. Already have or willing to invest in your own equipment. (Don't borrow one of my shotguns 3 times and tell me you can't afford one, then buy a $600 pistol next week)
6. Must be able to handle my blunt personality and have a sense of humor
7. Have more than a couple days per year to hunt. Need to be available to scout/hunt semi regularly
8. Have or be willing to get a wife that gets along with mine (this way they either come with or stay home together)
9. Will not take other friends/relatives/acquaintances to hunting spots I shared with you without permission.
10. Does not want to bore me with long political discussions.

About Me:

I've got 3 bird dogs I like to hunt as much as I possibly can. I'm also into big game but chasing birds is always at the top of the list. I like to fish as well. My preference is fly fishing for trout but I like fishing bass as well. I'll be in Minnesota next week for Northern Pike and Walleye with relatives.

I hunt all over the state and try to do at least one out of state trip every year. Last year I did Gould's turkey in Mexico and an upland bird trip to Montana. This year I've got a sharptail tag for Utah and plan to chase huns then hit Wyoming on the way out for Sage Grouse. Will probably get a California trip for Mountain Quail in this year too. Next year I've got an archery moose hunt scheduled.

I'm 34 and have a full time job. Most of my hunting is accomplished on weekends but I take some time off here and there. I've been building points for big game in other Western states and plan to wait long enough to draw some decent tags in the coming years. The right person would want to make this a goal as well.

It's a big list of stuff but if you fit the bill and want to hunt, give me a shout.

Good luck with that one.
Not sure why others think that is a "long" list---it should be the expected list....While my wife is a NO GO...I am open in getting out and assisting if interested. I have LIMITED skills, but listen well! I pay my own way...have my own beer...but DO SHARE.... ;-)

Why ---Yes....Yes I can.....do you want it correctly done, or Steve's way? That should be the question you need to ask yourself...

If you failed #1 you're missing out. Birds don't have much in trophy quality among the same species but they certainly make up for it in opportunity. Plus it's not like blowing a 2 hour stalk on the buck of your wildest dreams. Is a couple birds get away you know there's plenty more coming.

Everyone except Steve failed #6 sense of humor! Some of these are funny but they've all happened to me one time or another. It's not like I'm keeping score on every gallon of gas or beer, but I've had people tell me they want to start hunting then expect me to fund the whole operation every time we go like they're doing me a favor.

I know there's others out there that want to do this stuff. I'm not expecting anything but you never know

Steve I saw your reply on that gsp puppy post, do you have pointing dogs?
I'm good with all but #8. Part of hunting/fishing is to get away from the wife🤣
Also #6 travels both directions.

My wife is my guide, tracker, and driver. She has proven her worth on many a hunting and fishing trip. In-fact she fits most all of the list so perhaps she fits my bill for the perfect partner.

I agree on both points. #6 is a given.

#8 it's nice to be able to bring someone else on occasion to cook for you and wash your underwear

Must be nice. I've tried and thrown money at all kinds of things to get mine going. The only thing I can reliably get her to do is the dove hunt
I am not going to check off any damn list. Either we get along, or only one of us comes back lol. But if your ever in Idaho......
Underwear????

Might seem like a long list but alot of that is true. When your stuck with someone for a long weekend and they aren't a good fit it can suck. I have plenty of stories going with others who get drunk then miss their shots and blame me lol. Others prefer to cook and hunt from camp. Then theres the roadhunters who drive 8 hours a day for hunts and have to fill up every other day then complain they spend $600 in gas, don't see any animals and want half the money. After 2 years of trying to hunt with others, while i was learning how to hunt, I now do solo hunts only. Might invite someone on a short trip but during that time i gauge how well they deal with being in the field. Good hunting partners are out there. People think its strange i go alone but there is a reason for it. Once i started going alone I began filling my tags and the freezer.
