Prairie Dogs

Hoping to get some P. Dog hunting in this summer. Brother Bob and I found a Spot up east of Showlow, and GPa and I confirmed it one- two years ago, they are still there. The Colony lives on a large set of dirt berms and some pasture land, many Burrows and dirt mounds. And Luckily no houses within a quarter of a mile.

So if you guys do this, do you have a spot to go snipe ??

I have a few spots along some of my limited-ops scouting routes. I usually stop and bust out the AR for an hour or so mid-day.

My family owns a small ranch in SE Colorado that has a ton of prairie dogs. Unfortunately, due to the distance, I almost never get over there for some fun. Would love to find a more local spot!

Was at 100 yards. I was happy with this group because it had the velocity I wanted 3600.
i had another group that was good but was slower(3300) hence why I tried a different powder
Both are 5 shot groups

Never thought if it. I see them on occasion but not sure what i would do with them. Bear, do you eat them or is it just pest control?
I've gone up to the Big Bo ranch but their seasons suck, it is managed by the Indian tribe so it's whatever they say.
Be careful with the carcasses, some of them can carry the plague and is transmitted by their fleas/ticks.

Leave them just pest control. I have gone to Bo ranch also but they haven’t opened up in couple years.
friends also took out coyote on the ranch that the ranch handasked us to take out since they had lost couple claves recently

Target practice/ Pest control. I mostly do it to keep an old man sharp at holding his gun steady. No way am I eating one unless on TV with Naked & Afraid. Then everyone would be running away:cool::p !!!

The Hard part is finding a colony thats big enough to shoot for a couple of hours without them all going into the dens every time they hear a shot.

The Big Bo has had openings the past two years but only the last two weeks of March, too dang cold for me, the last time I went was in August, very nice weather with threat of rain every night but it never did.

Definitely agree on the Texas hog hunts. Looked into it and they tack on fees for everything. Im sure there is a farmer out there getting so much damage from the pigs theyd let us come out for free. Im still looking for feral pigs here only a matter of time before i catch them.

Not sure about that visual of you on Naked and afraid...

My method of not spooking them is a 22LR running subs and suppressed. The only noise they hear is the thump when there buddy gets popped.

I do like that Leupold will make a custom cap for their scopes, great company for sure.

The Seligman area has a lot of PDog colonies to the south of I10 and of course Big Bo. Williams and Flagstaff also have some great shooting ops too.
